WELL REPAIR / REHAB
Depending on the condition, some older wells can be redesigned to correct water quality issues. In many cases, repair of older wells is less expensive than drilling a new well, most counties in Iowa have up to $1,000.00 to rehab wells that landowners are currently using.
If a well log of the existing well is available, these records can be examined to see what might be causing the problems you are experiencing.
WELL ABANDONMENT
Landowners are responsible for ensuring abandoned wells are properly plugged. Abandoned wells that are not properly plugged lead to ground water contamination. Abandoned wells also pose a threat to the occupants health and safety. Financial assistance is available through Iowa Counties for properly abandoning wells or cisterns. The landowner will only need to sign the provided form and send a copy of the bill to the local county sanitarian within 30 days of the closure.
